Beginners Machine Knitting Course
Always wanted to learn the knitting machine but don’t have a machine to use? Thinking of getting a knitting machine but daunted on where to begin? Come along to this beginners machine knitting course where we will go through all the very basics that get you up and running on the machines.
This course will run for four weeks on a Wednesday evening from 11th March, 6pm. You will be introduced to the knitting machines, how they run and various techniques and structures as well as problem solving on the machine.
You will walk away confident in using the machines, creating knit techniques and beginning to work them into ideas for garments.
Week 1: 11th March 6pm - 8:30pm
The Basics
Introduction. Casting on and off, stitch sizes, stripes, functions of the machines, working with a transfer tool.
Week 2: 18th March 6pm - 8:30pm
Punch Cards
Creating pattern and form whilst using a punch card.
Fair Isle (Floating Jacquard) / Tuck / Slip / Mock Lace
Week 3: 25th March 6pm - 8:30pm
Partial Knit
The basics of partial knit (short rows). Creating dimension and form, shaping the material on the machine.
Week 4: 1st April 6pm - 8:30pm
Shaping
The basics of shaping on the machine, the basics of calculations, different ways to shape.
This 4 week workshop is perfect for anyone who is taking those first steps towards getting a knitting machine, or has one and would like to learn from the very beginning how to use it.
I have both Silver Reed and Brother machines available for you to use, however you are more than welcome to bring your own.
Workshops will run on site in the new studio in Ovenden, Halifax from 6pm - 8:30pm so the perfect new hobby for that weekday evening. Please also note, the Useless Studio Assistant may join, so there may be a dog in the workshop. Other dogs are welcome if you wish to bring yours, please just let me know in advance.

This is an in studio only workshop, and cannot be conducted virtually.
If you need to cancel, please do so up to a week (5 working days) in advance of the booked date. Less than 5 working days = 50% returned. Less than 24 hours cancellation notice is non refundable. Refunds are not available once the course begins.
Dates and times are final. Please ensure you can commit to the day before booking.
Please ensure you arrive on time. Anyone who arrives late may miss the demonstrations of the techniques.
If you sign up, you are signing up to all four dates. If you miss the first introduction it will not be repeated therefore you may find the subsequent workshops difficult.
